Neal Shusterman - Unwind
Questions Part 5 -
1
Which job in the graveyard does Risa get assigned to? How does this come about? P201
Risa gets assigned to be a medic after the goldens see how well she does at treating someone that had a bleeding nose after Connor had punched him.
Why doesn't Connor volunteer for "work"? P205
Connor doesn't volunteer for work call because he thinks that the Admiral is using all the kids and it makes him mad
How does Roland unsettle Connor? P206-207
Roland unsettles Connor because he agrees with Connor and shares his conspiracies with him.
P208-209 details Lev's arrival, and Connor's reaction. Make sure you fill in your character profiles for both characters.
P214-215 Connor learns the truth about the Admiral here. How does the Admiral gain Connor's trust?
He tells Connor the truth, that he had a son. But also that he had never used an unwind that his teeth weren't from and unwind but dentures. He pulls them out and shows Connor that they are false but Connor hasn’t heard of these before. He tells Connor that he wanted them to make his smile look exactly like his late son's smile that he had unwound.
What, according to the Admiral, is it that Connor is becoming famous for in the Graveyard?p212
Because he gets talked about usually with his fights and how well he can repair things.
What happens to the Goldens?p217
The Goldens got suffocated in a crate by a group of the unwinds. Connor and the Admiral want to find out who did it
How does Roland begin to assert his power in the Graveyard? (you'll need to look throughout the section)
He uses the fears of others to gain trust and use it against the Admiral to take his power.
P222-226 gives us an insight into how the Unwinding Bill was passed into law. Summarise what happened, then explain whether or not you think it is plausible.
Unwinding came about during the Heartland War when the Military came up with the idea but not to become true but to scare both parties yet both parties seemed to agree.
The Admiral was there when the Bill of Life was signed - do you think this detracts from the believability of the commonplace nature of Unwinding? In your opinion, do you think the book should have a few more generations between those who signed the Bill, and the present state in the novel?
What job does Lev volunteer to do? P236
Lev volunteers to work an oil pipeline as part of a plan with Mai, Cleaver and the other boy.
Which part of Harlan Dunfree does Emby have? P240
Emby got part of Harlan Dunfree’s lung, you can tell when the Admiral advises Emby to use Xolair because that's what helped his son with his asthma.
Chapter 39 is from Roland's point of view. Why do you think Shusterman changes the narrative here? What do we learn in this short chapter?
I think this was done to give the reader more of an idea of the character Roland is and the things he has done. I think Shusterman did this to introduce a new scene coming up when later on in the chapter we learn that Connor wants to interrogate Roland.
By the end of this section, things at the Graveyard have deteriorated, with the unwinds turning on the Admiral, and tearing the place apart. Which character is beaten to death on p250?
Cleaver is the character that gets beaten to death because he started up the helicopter and everyone thought he was helping the admiral
What does the Admiral refuse on p255? What is the doctor's reaction to this?
A transplant from a unwind, he would rather not
Why does Roland have the Juvey-Cops called? P259 Why doesn't his plan happen? P260-1
Roland plots to send Risa and Connor to juvie and gets away with it. His plan does happen but not the way he though as he too got sent to the unwinding facility.
