Hauora in Science

Planning

Aim: I want to find out how far my germs can spread when I sneeze.

Equipment:
Food Colouring (Blue, Red, Purple, Pink Yellow and Green)
Butcher Paper
Plastic Cups or a Beaker
Tissues
Water
Tape

Metre Ruler

Method:
1-  Lay the paper out in a straight line as far as 5 meters.
2 - Get your Cup and full it with as much water as 100 ml.
3-  Then put as much as 5 drops of food colouring in the cup of water.
4 - Then put some coloured water in your mouth make sure not to swallow any of it.
5- Then take a tissue and roll a corner, then stick up your nose to tickle yourself till you sneeze.
6- If you don't sneeze then pretend to sneeze, by spitting the water out.
7- When sneezing remember to look ahead of you and not down.
8- Measure how far you sneeze with your ruler, Mark your name where you have sneezed.

Results:
Here is a image that we captured of the end results and what it ended up looking like in the end. I manged to sneeze 2.86 m. The furthest sneeze travelled 3.10 m and the sneeze that travelled the shortest was 1.13 m. Most of the colour landed at about 70.5 cm.

Conclusion:
I found out that when you sneeze your spit can travel more than 3 meters from someone under the age of 14. I wonder what the furthest sneeze has travelled? Did you know that the estimate of a sneeze can travel 100 miles per hour?

Discussion/Explanation:
How do you sneeze?
Sneezing is caused by mucus containing irritants from nasal cavity  a sneeze it caused by expulsion from the air from the lungs through the nose and mouth, usually caused by foreign partials irritating the nasal mucosa. The next thing I want to find out is "How Much Bacteria Is In Your Sneeze/Saliva.
I think next time we could have put all the food colouring lids on and put them away so people could have stayed away from the liquids.
